R.A.D. children’s exams are held in the spring usually in the month of April. Vocational exams are held either in the early-mid Spring or late Fall. Students are entered at the discretion of the teachers and must meet the expected technical and physical criteria. All candidates are assessed and marked by an Examiner of the Royal Academy of Dance. To adequately and successfully prepare for these exams, our students are required to attend a minimum number of lessons per week.

Grades 1 – 3 1.75-2 hours a week (attending twice a week)
Grades 4 – 5 2.25-2.5 hours a week (attending twice a week)
Intermediate – Advanced 2 2.5 syllabus hours & added hours a week *

* Senior students may attend extra technique classes

All students of B.D.A. prepare to perform in the annual productions held at the end of June at the Michael J. Fox Theatre in Burnaby. Competitive Students also perform in Competitive Showcases and at various community events.

Competitions & Festivals

Takes place during the months of March through May, coaching starts early Fall. There are separate fees for the coaching sessions. Students are entered at the discretion of the teacher and must meet the criteria to compete. A strong technique, style/quality, stage presence and commitment level are among the basic requirements.
